Supporting Our Community Through Real Estate: A Mission to Make a Difference
In 2021, our team committed to a cause close to our hearts—helping those in our community who face the challenge of displacement. As real estate agents, we know the joy and security that comes with having a home. But for many in our area and our surrounding area, stable housing can feel like an unattainable dream. That’s why we partnered with Kennett Area Community Services (KACS) “Dont Settle For Homelessness (DSFH)” program to give back in a meaningful way.
DSFH serves Southern Chester County, PA, providing essential support to individuals and families at risk of homelessness or currently experiencing it. From rental assistance for those facing eviction to job training programs that build pathways to stability, their efforts make an incredible impact.
A Mission Rooted in Real Estate
For the past three years, we’ve symbolically tied the joy of homeownership with a commitment to helping those in need. As participating real estate agents, we pledge a portion of our commission at closing to support KACS DSFH. It’s a small way to ensure that while one family is celebrating a new home, another is receiving the help they need to avoid displacement or find a fresh start.
This idea isn’t limited to just one real estate company—it’s a concept KACS and its supporters like us, hope will grow into a national movement. Imagine if agents across the country connected with local organizations serving the homeless and pledged to support their missions. It’s a way for our industry to directly combat homelessness and make a tangible difference in our communities.
The Local Impact
KACS works tirelessly to provide a safety net for families in crisis. Whether someone has fallen behind on rent due to an unexpected medical bill or lost their job and can’t cover utilities, KACS steps in with financial assistance and wraparound services. Their programs don’t just stop at immediate relief—they include skill-building and job training initiatives designed to create lasting stability.
Our efforts with DSFH extend beyond donations. Last year, we hosted a focus group at the Kennett Library with other agents to brainstorm how to expand this initiative and inspire broader participation. Events like last Halloween’s fundraiser at The Creamery—a “Wizard of Oz”-themed evening aptly named “There’s No Place Like Home”—brought the community together to raise awareness and funds for the cause.
